Scripture: Mark 14:3-9

Devotion:
There are moments in life when our actions seem small, fragile, even foolish in the eyes of others. That’s how the woman’s offering in Bethany was received. While others saw waste, Jesus saw beauty. While they criticized, He honored.

She broke the jar. It couldn’t be resealed. It was an all-in, no-turning-back kind of love.

Jesus was days away from betrayal, trial, and crucifixion. He knew the road ahead, and this woman’s act gave Him something no one else did: presence, tenderness, and reverence in a time of approaching darkness.

Sometimes, the most meaningful things we do won’t make headlines or win applause. Sometimes our faithfulness looks like small kindnesses, silent prayers, quiet sacrifices, or choosing to stay when it’s hard. Like the woman in Bethany, you may not always see the outcome—but your offering matters.

When we bring our “broken jars” to Jesus—the things we once tried to hold together, the dreams we thought were wasted—He receives them as beautiful. He brings purpose out of pain and goodness from surrender.

This story reminds us: Even in the lead-up to the cross, something good can still come from brokenness.

Action Steps:

  • Break open something valuable today for the sake of love. Give time, money, or emotional presence where it's needed—even if it costs you something. Pray for courage to be a witness to grace, even when others don’t understand.
  • Write a thank-you message to someone who once showed you compassion during a hard time. Let them know their “beautiful thing” mattered.
  • Place a small jar or bottle in a quiet place at home. Let it symbolize your willingness to be poured out in love, trusting that God receives your offering.

Prayer:
Loving God, You see beauty where the world sees waste. You receive our offerings—especially when they come from broken places. Help me to love freely, to give fully, and to trust that You are bringing something good even from what I do not yet understand. Amen.

Breath Prayer:
(Inhale) Broken but beautiful… (Exhale) I offer all to You.
